khelera sikou project ("khelera sikou" in Nepalese -learning with fun)
Purpose:
The khelera sikou is a program that works with children and youth using the Arts and literacy to strengthen the participant’s personal voice and opens discourse for other alternative pro-social ways of reducing violence in schools and the greater communities.
This program is three-fold:
1) To support the fundamental right of a child’s voice in the classroom, community and the world around them;
2) To promote literacy through the use of story-telling, rewriting a new story and presenting stories to peers;
3) To create a place of safety for the participant to express their feelings using art.

Outcomes:
In March 2012, khelera sikou project served 70 children.
It trained 44 teachers and reached 8 communities.
The program worked with 6 schools and 2 NGOs.
The khelera sikou project hopes to continue this program
in the Kathmandu Valley and other remote areas outside
of the valley.
