Portland State University, Portland, OR, USA, Assistant Professor of Practice, January 2020- Presently

  • Responsible for providing student practicum placements and coordination of the CYFS practicum program, instruction, and student advising in the Child, Youth, &Family Studies program and the Families & Society Sophomore Inquiry, curriculum development, and involvement in the service and governance of the CYFS program and SSW.

  •  Practicum curriculum in CFS 497 and CFS498 seminars.

  • Responsible for maintaining a face-to-face and online presence in the CYFS program and being available to students for individual, group, and class-based advising and orientation to the practicum program.

  • Responsible to maintain and foster community partnerships through face-to-face and telephone/online contact with current and prospective practicum sites.

  • Developed a training with Crime Victim Advocates and community members from immigrant and refugee communities on improving access to justice for community members who are marginalized and do not access services after a crime committed has been committed.

Portland State University Faculty Association, Local 3571 Portland, OR, USA. PRESIDENT. 2016-2017 Lead all union business with an internal and external focus of the needs, rights, and welfare of the collective bargaining unit.

  • Co-facilitated and co-created PSUFA’s strategic plan (2016-2018);

  • Managed all budgetary and audit issues;

  • Acted as an ex-officio member of all committees (Executive council, benefits committees, and organizing committee);

  • Created bridges from Adjunct Faculty to PSU Administration (Labor Management working group, Board of Trustees, HR, Deans, Directors, and Chairs);

  • Lead, developed, and designed curriculum for three-part series of online-mobilizations and content development, World Pulse Train-the-Trainer for Digital Empowerment Manual ;

  • Reached 20 participants from various countries, including Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Philippines, Syria, and Iraq.

Nonprofit Association of Oregon, Portland OR, USA PROJECT MANAGER/CONSULTANT, October 2010 – June 2011

  • Designed, implemented and directed the project workplan for State of Oregon’s Office of Equity and

    Inclusion’s 5-Year Strategic Plan:

  • Provided the lead consultant with support in meeting project deliverables;

  • Served as the main point of communication and coordination between NAO, the client and the project participants; Lead data collection, review, analysis and summarizing for the strategic planning process and environmental assessment.

 

Portland Children’s Museum, Portland, OR, USA COMMUNITY PARTNERS MANAGER, February 2008 – September 2010

Lead and managed all programmatic elements, responsible, curriculum development and implementation, student recruitment, and community and parent outreach.

  • Planned, implemented and evaluated programs, grants and events at the Museum, schools, local libraries and community centers for children and/or caregivers (i.e. Target’s First Friday Nights, Day of the Young Child and Disability Awareness Day);

  • Developed, implemented and evaluated 3 art-based literacy programs that served 350 children and worked with 3 public schools, 5 non-profits and 4 communities;

  • Built and maintained over 150 critical relationships with community leaders and partnering organizations to best serve families with barriers to access;Growth of 17% of participation from underserved communities, families and schools;

  • Co-wrote a grant and did a phenomenological research project with Portland State University that focused on non-profits and University partnerships.

 

Mercy Corps, Gulf Coast Hurricane Relief and Recovery Program, Mississippi, USA YOUTH PROGRAM OFFICER, January 2006 – August 2006. Managed the start-up, implementation, technical oversight, and ongoing monitoring of Mercy Corps’ youth, education, and psychosocial programs for hurricane survivors, particularly children and their caregivers, in Mississippi.

  • Oversaw grant administration, monitoring and reporting for all Mississippian grantee (USD300000);

  • Identified 27 community-based child and youth oriented organizations and consulted with grantees to achieve desired impact of grants (i.e. site visits, providing technical guidance and convening meetings of key stakeholders);Delivered psychosocial training programs for mental health and childcare providers and identified community members and local organizations to be involved;

  • Managed requests for educational, computers, and other materials (e.g.10, 000 Comfort for Kids/Nike Backpacks, 10,000 Comfort for Kids Resources including My Hurricane Story, Facilitator Guides, and What Happened to My World) for Mercy Corps in Mississippi;

  • Represented Mercy Corps at public and media events (Mercy Corps, Save the Children, NJ State Firemen’s Mutual Benevolent Association and Bay St. Louis Public School District Playground Project).

 

Citizen Schools, Inc., Boston, MA, USA CAMPUS DIRECTOR, June 2004 – December 2004

Lead and managed all programmatic elements, oversaw 85+ middle school aged children, managed 15+ community volunteers, and 8 staff.

  • Responsible for staff and volunteer management, curriculum development and implementation, student recruitment, and community and parent outreach.Lead campus educator, modeling interactive, hands-on learning with staff and children;

  • Built relationships through targeted outreach and developed of strategic local partnership;

  • Authored staff evaluations and Campus Director Reports;Managed and documented campus logistics, including budget, tuition collection, federal snack/lunch program participation, licensing, staff timesheets, database information.

 

YWCA: Asian Services Program, Chicago, IL USA COUNSELOR/ADVOCATE, August 2000 – April 2001Consulted and implemented YWCA Asian Services Program. Advocated and counseled Asian American and Asian Pacific Islanders (AAPI) who were victims/survivors of sexual assault, rape or childhood sexual abuse.

  • Provided individual assessments, short-term therapy, crisis intervention and group therapy;

  • Implemented a program that addressed the needs of people traumatized by sexual assault, rape or childhood sexual abuse;

  • Orchestrated and presented the first think tank forum that discussed how the YWCA could direct services to better serve targeted AAPI communities.
