FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR 2021-2022 (TUSEF/Fulbright Thailand): Speaking for Ourselves Action Research (SOAR) and Co-Researching as a Tool for Situating Youth Knowledge at the Center for Research. The purpose of the Fulbright will focus the role of hope and how emotions contribute to peace-building, agency, and action that impact Thailand’s youth and specifically supports the integration of refugee youth in Thai culture. I will teach a series of seminars on peace-building, research methods, and youth & migration and do research at Chulalongkorn University’s Center for Social Development Studies in their (Forced) Displacement and Development, Thailand. Partners: Chulalongkorn University, Mae La/Tham Hin Refugee Camp, Mae Sot/Suan Phueng Host Community, Rotary Peace Center, Rotary (Thailand), and Peace Resource Collaborative Foundation.

CONSULTANT, Save the Children Sweden, UNICEF, The Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, Seven E-learning modules that strengthen coordination, quality and accountability for child well-being/child protection in humanitarian settings, Child Protection Minimum Standards Principle 1-4 and Standard 3, 15, 16, Sweden, 2021-2022.

CONSULTANT, INEE (Inter-agency Network Education in Emergencies) and The Alliance (Child Protection in Humanitarian Action), E-learning module that cultivates approaches for cross-sectoral child protection and education collaboration in emergency contexts, Child Protection Minimum Standards Standard 23, USA & UK.

PAMBAZUKO PROGRAM, Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kakuma, Kenya. Collaborator, Researcher, & Consultant. Partners: Jesuit Refugee Services, Jesuit Worldwide Learning, with Kakuma Refugees, Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, January 2017-June 2017.  Implemented and evaluated an art-based and literacy program for children and youth that used the creative arts to focus on the intervention and prevention of violence.

  • Served 600 youth, trained 14 refugees/co-participant-researcher from Kakuma Refugee Camp and 7 JRS staff.  Kakuma 1 & 4 communities reached.

 

KHELERA SIKOU PROGRAM, , Kathmandu, Nepal. Collaborator, Researcher, & Consultant. Partners: Vishwa Shanti Vihara, Feb 2012 - March 2012. Managed overall program development and implementation (financial, administrative and programmatic). Produced a sustainable art-based and literacy program for children and youth that used the creative arts to focus on the intervention and prevention of violence.

  • Served 70 children;

  • Trained 44 teachers;

  • 8 communities reached. 

 

IRIE LITART PROGRAM, Montego Bay Jamaica, Collaborator, Researcher, & Consultant. Partners: Great Shapes, Inc. and Ministry of Education, Feb 2010 - March 2010. Managed overall program development and implementation (financial, administrative and programmatic). Produced a sustainable art-based and literacy program for children and youth that used the creative arts to focus on the intervention and prevention of violence.

  • Served 220 children and 880 visits;

  • Trained 23 staff from the Jamaica Ministry of Education: Literacy officers, counselors and teachers;

  • 60 communities reached.

 

Mercy Corps, Beirut, Lebanon, Reporting Officer, October 2006 – December 2006

Reviewed/submitted reports and documents for donors; Co-authored OFDA and ECHO grants $5M; Lead, supported and/or backstopped proposals.

 

Hakick Methodist Church, Incheon, South Korea, Volunteer, February 2005-June 2005

Served as a teacher and promoted their literacy program. Managed local staff team members, including development of capacity of the project team;Solicited, established and maintained community supporters for the local “White BandCampaign.”

 

NTHABISENG PROJECT, Diepsloot Informal Settlement, Johannesburg, South Africa, Founder, August 2001-December 2002

Managed overall program development and implementation (financial, administrative and programmatic). Produced a sustainable psychosocial program for children and youth that used the creative arts to focus on the intervention and prevention of violence.

  • Designed, developed, assessed the psychosocial needs of children and youth in the Nthabiseng Project (includes immediate needs, short-term and long-term assessments);

  • Provided informed, strategic, research-based presentations and workshops to a variety of audiences including community healthcare workers, teachers and the community-at-large;Identified community members, local NGOs and CBOs in program development, implementation and sustainability;

  • Developed and implemented capacity building plans for the Nthabiseng Project; Managed local staff team members, including development of capacity of the project team;

  • Wrote, managed, evaluated and monitored three individual grants from the General Board ofGlobal Ministries Women’s Division, NY, USA and the Chicago Methodist Episcopal Aid Society, Illinois, USA, 2000 (USD 15000)
